Detox Beet Pineapple Smoothie

Have you ever had one of those days when you woke up feeling bloated from having eaten a heavy dinner the previous day, If so, I have the perfect antidote for you. 

This smoothie will flush out all the toxins in your body, and leave you feeling energetic and revitalized. Plus, it has the yumminess of pineapple and the superpowers of beets! Call me crazy, but I like the taste of those two ingredients combined. The lemon juice adds the right amount of tartness to complement the other ingredients. The greens pack a healthy punch of iron, but surprisingly the taste is completely masked by the other ingredients – you have got to trust me on this!

Chia seeds are another superfood, which contain a healthy dose of omega-3s, but their main purpose in this smoothie is to aid the absorption of all the nutrients.

This smoothie is the perfect pre-workout snack, because many athletes claim that consuming beets before a workout aids performance. But it can also be a great grab-and-go breakfast or a late morning/early evening snack. Besides, who needs a reason to drink something healthy, right?

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pineapple chunks

  • 1 small or medium beet

  • 2 cups mixed greens (I used spinach and kale)

  • 1 tsp Chia seeds

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 1/2  cups cold water

Directions

  • Blend together all the ingredients in a high powered blender until smooth. 
  • Add more water if needed, or ice to thicken it.
  • Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately. 

Notes

  • Tastes best when made fresh. You can store leftovers in the refrigerator in a tightly covered glass container for up to a day.
