Red Velvet Smoothie

Imagine the yumminess of a red velvet cake, without the guilt of bad calories or refined sugar! That’s exactly what you will get in this wholesome, rich, decadent smoothie. All you need are 7 ingredients, a high-speed blender and 5 minutes!

This is a great post-workout smoothie, since the key ingredient, beets, have powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Plus the natural red pigments or betacyanins provide the deep red color and make this smoothie a visual treat.

Key ingredients in this smoothie are:

  • Beets – a powerhouse of nutrition and a great source of folate, potassium, iron and Vitamin C
  • Bananas – duh – all that potassium!
  • Raw cacao powder – a raw superfood rich in iron, flavonoids and potassium 
  • Dates – a natural source of sugar but low on the glycemic index scale
  • Hemp seeds/chia seeds – a healthy dose of omega-3s and aid in absorption of all the nutrients
  • Almond milk to blend all of the above and vanilla and salt to elevate the taste!

A wholesome yet decadent smoothie with the flavors of red velvet cake, yet none of the guilt. 7 ingredients, a high-speed blender and 5 minutes – that’s all you need to make this!

Ingredients

  • 1 fresh raw beet, peeled and chopped

  • 2 ripe bananas

  • 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder (preferred) OR cocoa powder

  • 4 Medjool dates, pitted

  • 2 teaspoons hemp seeds or chia seeds

  • 3/4 cup almond milk or oat milk

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

Directions

  • Add all the ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.
  • Taste and add more dates for sweetness or more milk if consistency is too thick.
  • Serve immediately. Tastes best fresh.
